“What’s So Special About Me?”

These are the profound words spoken by the young child, Mata Sahib Kaur Ji in the newly released trailer by Nihal Nihal Nihal Productions!

The highly anticipated 3D animated movie about the life of Mata Sahib Kaur Ji – entitled Supreme Motherhood – is gearing up for a Zee Studios worldwide release on April 14th 2022. This movie is all about what is so special about the Mother of the Khalsa, Mata Sahib Kaur Ji and why every Sikh and non-Sikh should know about her.

The jaw-dropping trailer commences on Mata Ji’s character from birth embodying all the qualities of a spiritually endowed soul. After asking the question “What’s so special about me?”, Mata Ji’s father, Bhai Rama Ji delightfully replies: “in your name – Sahib Deva – it’s just happiness in itself, the gift from the One Master.” The power in this scene shows the world that contrary to societal views, in the Sikh faith, a girl child is not only accepted, but revered as a gift from God. Also as Sikhs, we follow a tradition where all our names hold such meaning and significance. This scene reminds us of Mata Ji’s very own link with God and as her children, we can reflect on our own connection to the One too.

Beautiful vocals from the well-respected vocal artist Shankar Mahadevan create an uplifting and inspirational mood showcasing the bravery of young Sahib Deva. The trailer sensitively conveys the prevalent social issues at the time of Mata Ji’s childhood. In one scene, governing Moghuls refuse to see females from other faiths as anything but slaves to satisfy their desires. Mata Ji challenges them to respect all females and treat them as their own sisters. Furthermore, on seeing increasing tyranny against females, Mata Ji empowers herself by learning Shastar Vidya (the Sikh martial art) and vows to protect not only herself, but all others too.

The action-packed scenes of Sahib Deva’s dedication to training and righteousness, to leading an army against invaders, serve as an incredible message of how females are worthy of self-respect and leadership.

The dramatic trailer centres around Mata Ji’s divine love for Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji and goes onto introduce how Mata Sahib Kaur ji was bestowed the title Mother of the Khalsa by noneother than Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji themselves. One of the most emotional scenes in the trailer include the closing words by Mata Ji whilst holding her sword in victory, portraying the true spirit of the Khalsa. Mata Ji gracefully roars to the Sikh army ready for battle that the Khalsa took birth via the Khanda [Guru Gobind Singh Ji used the Khanda/ double-edged sword in the Amrit sanchar / initiation ceremony, when they established the Khalsa, Vaisakhi 1699] and this Khalsa will go onto to decimate oppressive rulers.

Finally, after centuries of being nothing more than a name in the background, the story of Mata Sahib Kaur Ji’s life will be presented to the world to inspire generations to come.  This larger-than-life movie promises to be unique – made by the children of Mata Sahib Kaur Ji, the Sikh sangat, for the Sikh masses and beyond!
